Presence is often called the dial tone for the Internet age. Unlike the dial tone on your phone, presence tells you not whether you are connected to the network, but whether your friends and family and co-workers are connected. Because of fragmentation in the technology and provider landscape, we have not yet begun to tap into the power of presence. But that is finally beginning to change, and I'll explain how in 10 minutes or less.
