All things want to be connected -- because the more things are connected
the better they work. Now the scale and intimacy of connectivity is
increasing (accelerating) at a scary rate. We don't always see it, but
we do sense the big shift. The term "netness" characterizes the new
state-of-being as connectivity becomes ubiquitous and lives become
"entangled."
Connectivity is the ultimate driver of new value. (Yes, even more than Moore's Law.)
Extending connectivity across and beyond networks provides essential knowledge, safety and collaboration. And (critical for eCommers,) connects us to new models and markets. Limit connectivity and you limit opportunity. Connect the unconnected and you hugely improve odds for success.
Netness offers a powerful conceptual tool for guiding innovation and governance going forward. (And what's most urgent? Recognition of the level of global connectivity required to survive the perfect storm of reduced global resources meeting increased global warming.)
