Interoperability doesn't mean you can talk to everyone else. Push to talk is not the most efficient way to communicate. Tactical radios have no ability to prioritize, or to define or assert priority. Most troops do not have radios. Almost all the spectrum the military uses is wasted.
Communication is the most important tool of our military. The most powerful weapon of any unit is its radio, and its ability to bring aircraft and other forces to bear on a target. Effective communication is critically important to preventing friendly fire, keeping troops safe, preventing deadly incidents and effective search and rescue.
What are the impediments to better communication? What are the myths we cling to? How can we make it better?
