Assaf Biderman teaches at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he is the Associate Director of the SENSEable City Laboratory, an MIT research group that explores the "real-time city" by studying the increasing deployment of sensors and networked hand-held electronics, and their relationship to the built environment. Biderman has backgrounds in physics and human-computer interaction. Deborah Estrin (Ph.D., MIT, 1985; B.S., UCBerkeley, 1980) is a Professor of Computer Science at UCLA and Founding Director of the NSF-funded Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS). Estrin’s current work focuses on participatory sensing systems, leveraging the location, image, and user-contributed data streams increasingly available globally from mobile smartphones. Projects include Participatory Sensing campaigns for civic engagement, and privacy-aware self-monitoring applications for health and wellness. Estrin’s recognitions include: Anita Borg Institute's Women of Vision Award for Innovation and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.

Hartmut Neven is a scientist working in computational neurobiology, robotics and computer vision. Neven co-founded two companies, Eyematic and Neven Vision. Neven Vision pioneered mobile visual search and was acquired by Google. Today he manages a team responsible for advancing Google’s visual search technologies and is the lead engineer for Google Goggles. Neven is also researching the use of quantum computing for machine learning. Tom was a founder of Triple Canopy, a security company with over 3,000 employees. He remains co-chairman and the largest shareholder. After 9/11, Tom put his business career on hold to re-enlist in the Army. He returned to active duty with a Special Forces team and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2002 and 2003. Tom was an 18E and received extensive training on all significant military communications systems. Tom has held Vice President positions at Netcentives and Citigroup. He is a graduate of Yale University with a BA in Ethics, Politics and Economics.

She has organized and advocated for a free, accountable and accessible media system,focusing on the protection and sustainability of alternative media outlets from Pacifica Radio to low-power FM, public access and Indymedia, monitored the mainstream media for accuracy and fair representation and facilitated the training of numerous nonprofit organizations and citizen's groups in effective communications. Troy Davis (@troyd) co-founded and runs Cloudvox, a hosted Web service and API for placing, receiving, and controlling phone calls with existing software, from anywhere on the Internet. Others say that Cloudvox is "Amazon EC2 for phone apps" or "Asterisk in the cloud." Cloudvox was acquired by Ifbyphone in 2010. Davis turns back-of-the-napkin ideas into real, useful, sustainable Web services. He's a board member of the Seattle Internet Exchange peering point, and has held product management, software, and engineering roles with Semaphore, Loudeye, and RealNetworks. A coffee fiend and pool player, Davis rarely writes about himself in the third person.

Usman Haque, is director Haque Design + Research Ltd (www.haque.co.uk), founder of Pachube.com and CEO of Connected Environments Ltd. He has created responsive environments, interactive installations, digital interface devices and mass-participation performances around the world. His skills include the design and engineering of both physical spaces and the software and systems that bring them to life. As well as directing the work of Haque Design + Research he was until 2005 a teacher in the Interactive Architecture Workshop at the Bartlett School of Architecture, London.
