Augmented Reality (AR) is all the rage and mobile is the perfect platform. With an ever increasing number of applications using one form of AR or another, where is the separation from hype and usability happening? We will explore the current state of development and project out 5 to 10 years from now with predictions of what will become a ubiquitous part of our lives. With AR in the early stages of consumer focused technology development, there will be a lot of trial and error along the way to providing the everyday mobile user with an experience that compliments their lives. But the promises are tremendous whether that is in the creation of virtual experience diaries to quick decision tools. For example, consider that we will at some point be able to read a blackjack table and have the odds immediately calculated and overlaid onto our mobile headset mounted device. That is just one example of what we will "see" in the future; a future that really is somewhat unreal.
