Strange Days. How the Computing Experience is Turning Inside Out

Mark Rolston, Chief Creative Officer, frog design

Date: Wednesday, April 21

Time: 5:00 - 5:20 PM

Location: Salon E

In my last talk at eComm in Amsterdam I ended with a quote from the comic superhero Iron Man about how augmented reality allows us to "see through satellites". Well, it's happening right now, right in front of us in thousands of subtle and not-so-subtle ways. The computer is stepping out, off the desk, even out of our pockets, to become embedded in our world, around us, on us, and even in us.

This time I want to address the behavioral and experiential implications of this change. How will our lives change as these technologies become common? How will it affect activities such as shopping, healthcare, transportation, entertainment, and of course, communications?

I will uncover current trends, explore example ideas, and attempt to address some of the larger sociological implications. And of course, as a designer I won't be able to help myself and will inevitably point out a few really cool new interfaces and tools that will arrive as part of this phenomenon.
