Date: Monday, April 19

Time: 9:45 - 10:07 AM

Location: Salon E

In March, the Federal Communications Commission has delivered to Congress the United States first National Broadband Plan ever. It lays out a road-map for government action that has the potential to transform the fixed and mobile broadband markets in America. For example, the plan recommends among other things:

  • Massive reallocation of spectrum
  • Fundamental changes in how broadband is marketed and sold to consumers to ensure transparency
  • Transformation of the video set top box market to facilitate competitive entry and innovation
  • Establishment of connectivity and economic incentives for the use of broadband-enabled health-IT that could revolutionize medicine
  • The creation of standards-based content pools for digital educational content and online learning tools to transform how teachers select, use and distribute educational content
  • Steps to ensure that consumers and businesses - or their appointed third parties - have access to their energy consumption data
