David Marimon

Telefonica R&D, Leader

David Marimon is the leader of Mobile Augmented Reality and Visual Recognition activities at Telefonica Research and Development. His activities span from applied technology development to team leadership.

David received the M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain in 2003 and the Ph.D. degree in Computer, communication and information sciences from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland in 2007.

As a researcher, he has been involved in the area of 3D video processing, computer vision and augmented reality. His research in those areas has been published in several conferences and book chapters. He also has several pending patents on those domains.

At a project level, David has participated in several EU funded projects, such as PERSEO, VISNET I and II, K-Space, and more recently, 3DPresence. He has also collaborated with the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL) on an AR-related workshop. Currently, David is leading a consortium of industrial and academic partners on a project called MobiAR funded by the Spanish Government. The topic of MobiAR is Mobile AR applications for tourism. He is also involved in the leadership of a Mobile Visual Search system called IRIS fully developed at Telefonica R&D.
