The success (or failure) of specific emerging communications technologies and products are dependant on the infrastructure and ecosystem provided by the large telecommunications companies in the United States. These companies are the 800 pound gorilla that cannot be ignored. The talk discusses what role these companies are playing in the United States; how this role inhibits or enhances emerging communication technologies and what alternatives are there for either different behaviors on the part of these companies or alternatives to these companies in order to foster the growth of emerging communications technologies.
