Orange now offers OpenIDs to all of their broadband subscribers. The beginning of a trend? Are telcos uniquely positioned to assert on-line identities of their subscribers - subject to their consent - to third parties? If so, is there any money to be made (for telcos) and to be saved (for those accepting those on-line identities?)
In this talk, Johannes will discuss the economics of authentication and identity management on the internet, and why this uniquely favors both broadband and mobile operators over their competitors that do not have a direct billing relationship with the customer. This unique advantage can be leveraged into a sustainable competitive position.
